Location: Big Bend National Park, Texas About this photo:

Shortly after the previous photo was taken, the clouds took over and blanketed the sky. I wondered around the desert in search of interesting sights. I was amazed at the landscaped look of the desert floor.

It's basically bare rocks with the occasional plant or cactus sprouting up. It has a neat, clean look that's hard to obtain anywhere else (because of grasses and weeds). I found a nice Ocotillo (aka Devil's Walking Stick) that framed the Chisos mountians with a "V". The diagonals of the Ocotillo contrasted nicely with the horizontal layers of the desert behind it.

Ocotillos have small, green leaves and hard spikes all over. After it rains, the plant will produce small red flowers.
