Location: Big Bend National Park, Texas About this photo:

This was taken on our first trip to Big Bend. After the first night of camping, near Pine Canyon, we awoke to a hazy sky. About an hour after sunrise, the haze burned off to reveal a near cloudless sky. The desert was full of beautiful flowers due to unusually heavy rainfall in the previous month. The air was cool, fresh, and clean. It was a great vacation away from Houston!

I wanted to capture the golden sunlight, flowers, and the desert in a landscape scene. I used a mini-tripod and placed the camera, in portrait format, close to the ground. I laid on my stomach and took several images. The short focal length and small aperture gave this photo a great depth of field.
