My main purpose in constructing this model was to make a vehicle with the highest pulling capability. I selected an articulated tractor because I thought it would allow me to build a simple, yet realistic, model with a strong drive train.

The model was mostly constructed in September and October of 2001. Originally I used 24 x 43 tires which proved to be too small. I received set 8466 for Christmas which had larger tires and were a suitable match for my tractor.

I made the mistake of trying to pack too much into a small model. The structure had to be strong enough to support the drive train and the many gear reduction steps. The frame is 10-studs wide at some points and only 7-studs wide at others.

Because of the space limitations, I did not allow myself room to be able to easily redesign the drive train to make it stronger. Also, a close look at the interior of the cab will show that it's just a big tan lump. That area was the only place I could easily fit the shifting motor and it didn't leave room to proplerly build a dashboard, steering wheel, and driver's seat. The tan pieces are the cover over the motor and worm gear block.
