General Information

This model was completed on June 2, 2001. I started on it 2 years earlier, but only seriously worked on it in the previous 4 or 5 months. I don't know how long I actually spent building it, but I estimate somewhere between 200 to 250 hours.

The total height of the model is 12 feet and 4 inches (3.76 meters) if the boom and jib are completely vertical. The ceiling in my living room is 12 feet high and the top of the jib did come in contact with it.

The crane is roughly modelled after the DEMAG CC12600 . There are several differences between the model and the real thing. For example, I did not have enough red and white parts to complete the model in the color scheme shown in the example pic. So the model is blue, black, yellow, red, etc.

This model, as all my other models, was built to be functional. Aesthetics was second on the list of importance. When constructing it, I planned not only for the model to hold its own weight, but to also be able to perform a heavy lift.

Also, as in my other models, my goal was maximum size. I used nearly all of my Technic beams to make the crane.

My other goal on this model was to greatly improve upon a previous model, the Crane 93 . The new crane is far superior to the old one. It is larger, stronger, and has real crawler treads!
